A US Virginia-class nuclear-powered attack submarine has been detected and chased away in Russian territorial waters off the Kuril Islands.
The vessel was found submerged off the small uninhabited island of Urup while Russia’s Pacific Fleet was holding exercises in the area.
Russian vessels contacted the submarine, warning it was in the country’s territorial waters and ordering it to surface immediately.
The submarine did not respond to the messages and destroyer Marshal Shaposhnikov was deployed to chase it off. The Russian vessel used “appropriate means” against the US sub, the military noted without providing any further details.
Following the run-in with the destroyer, the Virginia-class submarine used an active radar decoy, sailing away from Russian waters at full speed. The Russian Defense Ministry said it has summoned a US military attaché to explain the incursion.

Moscow added that the actions of the submarine constitute a major violation of international law, and create a threat to Russia’s national security. The military said it reserves the right to take any security measures in its own territorial waters.
It was not immediately clear what exact vessel was involved in the incident, with no official statement produced by the Pentagon on the incursion so far.
The USA has 19 active duty Virginia-class nuclear-powered submarines. The vessels are armed with cruise and anti-ship missiles, as well as massive Mark 48 torpedoes.

It’s an odd moment for the US Navy to “learn” and to update databases about Russian warships signatures under the water. The pentagon chief and Joe Biden are well aware of these procedures because they are the ones who give the orders for such incursions inside of territorial waters from other nations.
Russia shows mercy, diplomacy while Washington is sinking even more everyday under an unprecedented poor judgement creating a diplomatic nightmare with Russia. China must watch and learn because today is Russia but tomorrow is China.
As long as Russia is able to detect US war vessels there is no problem?

The closest Russian warship was a destroyer-frigate convert that has ASW rockets. If the Captain had wanted to he could have sunk a Virginia class boat before it could escape. He chose restraint. Why doesn’t the United States? When the confrontation finally comes it won’t be because Russia didn’t turn the other cheek over and over, because they have. It’ll be because the USA doesn’t respect other people or countries and crossed the stream one time too many.
But this was the second time, a US ship violated Russian territorial waters. When a US plane violated Chinese airspace they brought it down and dismantled it, since it was a spy plane filled with classified equipment. The US military has not violated their airspace again!
