Russian air defenses thwarted a Ukrainian drone attack on Moscow during the night, with no casualties or damage on the ground. According to the city’s mayor, Sergey Sobyanin, the Russian military blocked the Ukrainian drone raid on the capital.

A total of 158 drones were shot down or intercepted by electronic warfare during a large-scale NATO backed Ukrainian attack on Russian territory overnight, the Defense Ministry in Moscow has said.

A major Ukrainian UAV attack on Russian territory took place mid-August and saw 117 UAV’s destroyed by air defenses. Another raid, just over a week ago, involved 45 drones, with 11 of them targeting Moscow, according to the Russian Defense Ministry.

Kiev intensified its plane-type drone incursions into Russia in January, mainly targeting energy infrastructure, but also hitting residential areas.

Moscow responded by adding Ukrainian power plants to its list of legitimate military targets. Most of Ukraine’s non-nuclear generation capacity has been disabled or destroyed by Russian strikes since then.

Ukraine has periodically attempted to target the Russian capital – located more than 500 kilometers from the front line – with drone raids. Most of the UAV’s have been neutralized before reaching their targets.

On August 21, when eleven UAV’s were downed in the vicinity of the Russian capital it was one of the largest Ukrainian drone attacks on Moscow.

One of Prigozhin‘s criticisms of the Russian leaderships approach was that Russia did not see itself ‘at war’ with Ukraine. With the benefit of hindsight, with Kursk being invaded, Moscow being bombed from the air, and Ukrainian artillerymen incinerating innocent Russian citizens in their cars on Russian roads, possibly Prigozhin was bang on 100% correct. It got him killed though.

Perhaps it is time for the Russian side to send a reminder to Kiev in the form of targeting and destroying the bridges in Kiev. That way they will minimize civilian casualties and send a stark message that Kiev can and will be targeted if they continue to attack Moscow.

How is it possible for these drones to fly so far from Ukrainian territory to Moscow? They must be launched inside Russia

Without knowing what type of drones they are that question is hard to answer. These are military level drones with engines and not electrically powered consumer drones. The Turkish Bayraktar drone for example has a range of about 300km according to Wikipedia. The other thing is that if they fly below the radar they are effectively invisible until the attack run due to the curvature of the earth.

I agree with the general trend of replies here its way by the time for Mr.Putin to really act hit Ukraine hard ! -flatten them ,if I was in charge there would be no Pussy Footing ” about – hit my country-kill my countrymen – invade my country ???
Then it would be all out war and if Americans want bombed for the first time just like Hitler bombed the UK and Europe and bring about total nuclear destruction -so be it.

I am very glad that the Russian forces can counter most of these terrorist attacks ^^ Would be indeed extremely terrifying if this would be otherwise.

I’ll ask a perfectly reasonable question again and possibly somebody can have a go at providing a reasonable answer. I know that many of you find it a terrible challenge, but have a go. Here we are: Why, after two and a half years is there still a single serviceable runway, airport, major road, railway line, sea port, water treatment, sewage processing plant, or electricity generating facility in Ukraine? Why have the leadership of Ukraine not been destroyed? Why has Russia not supplied the heroic Houthis with effective weaponry to use against their joint enemy of western shipping? Why are… Read more »

The Zionist entities are dangerous because they are willing to use nuclear weapons if cornered, so they have to be depleted, which will cause many human deaths, but a nuclear fall out would be worse.

Of course it would be worse but it is just blatant BLACKMAIL ,you are right to criticise RT it follows a soft course which is useless against a relentless enemy . I gave up posting there as they didn’t like my positive action comments better to click on Sputink news which is being attacked because the USA recognises its more positive programme . I have posted several times here that the USA just keeps pushing till it reaches a limit Russia wont take but Mr.Putin will have to realise his pacifist viewpoint will get Russia and all its citizens NUKED… Read more »

Hopefully time will expire on these career thugs. Putin has survived dozens of assassination attempts on his life and must find a way to take large scale nuclear attacks of the list in order to minimize victims in Russia. If one military can not win a war against other armed adversaries, civilians will be the next ones on the kill list. Like what is happening in Kursk, people are getting kidnapped (Hamas style) by NATO mercenaries, but the UN does not give a damn here. On the other hand Russia is not out to destroy Ukraine, nor its citizens. In… Read more »
