Panicked passengers rushed to evacuate a burning Aeroflot plane at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo Airport after the Sukhoi Superjet-100 made a fiery crash-landing at a second attempt.
Footage shared on Twitter appeared to show a dense cloud of black smoke pouring out of flight SU-1492 parked on the runway as dozens of ambulances were dispatched to the scene. All 78 passengers were evacuated from the burning wreck.
At least 13 people who were on board of the burnt-out Aeroflot plane, are feared dead, according to media reports. A criminal investigation has been opened into the incident.
After the fire was extinguished, the extent of the damage was revealed. The tail had been completely consumed by the blaze, and much of the rear fuselage had been burned down to its metal skeleton.
The aircraft involved was relatively new, with reports saying it was made either in 2017 or 2018.
At least 41 people have died after a Sukhoi Superjet 100 en route from Moscow to Murmansk crash-landed shortly after takeoff, authorities confirmed.
