Russia’s Long-Range Aviation has been boosted after receiving a modernized Tu-22M3 strategic bomber, while two Tu-160M planes have been submitted for flight tests, the state-run United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) announced on Friday.

The Tu-22M3 was given a number of tweaks aimed at boosting its capabilities, the UAC said in a statement. The plane was delivered to the country’s long-range bomber fleet after a test-flight.

The Tupolev-22M3 is a modern version of the iconic Soviet-era strategic bomber, which has been in service since the 1970’s. The aircraft type has been repeatedly modernized, with the latest makeover, the M3M, unveiled back in 2018.

The corporation has also submitted two Tu-160M nuclear-capable bombers for flight tests.

One of the aircraft is a modernized version of an existing plane, while the other has been built from scratch as part of Russia’s recent efforts to re-start its strategic plane-manufacturing program.

The Tu-160 is the most important part of Russia’s nuclear triad, so the modernization of the active-duty warplanes and the resumption of production of these strategic bombers is our priority, Sergey Chemezov, the head of Rostec, the UAC’s parent company stated.

The Tu-160 long-range bombers have remained in service since the late 1980’s, having been introduced shortly before the collapse of the Soviet Union.

The plane was created primarily to carry long-range nuclear-tipped cruise missiles, but it is capable of using conventional munitions as well.

UPDATE DECEMBER 30, 2022: Bakhmut is closer to encirclement. Russian troops already attacking Ivanivske, which means they have fire control over that supply route to Bakhmut. If the Russians successfully cut Ukranazis supply lines, they will be in big trouble. Give it a few weeks and Ukrainians will either have to retreat, send in more reinforcements, which will be very difficult because of constant Russian artillery and drone attacks on enemy positions. This can also means if the Ukranazis are able to move in reinforcements they would have been compromising their other fronts. Ukranazistan has been moving troops from one… Read more »

Yes I checked on that and you get two versions – CNN/ABC/CBS/Fox “news ” etc — “Ukraine has killed 1000,s of Russian troops there” —then you get reality from Russian websites that -your right its looking bad for the Azovs and in another cover up -Azov chief Zelensky has now authorised something not seen since the English Middle Ages – males are being “pressed ganged ” while out walking in the streets due to the massive Ukrainian manpower losses .

The F35 is a super-expensive boondoggle with a litany of problems, that require ‘special attention’. It is already inferior to other 5th-gen fighter planes, including – but not limited to – the Russian SU57 which has 2 engines, not 1, a larger tank, longer flight distances, just to name a few. And it is way less expensive. Furthermore, as far as I know the F35 has never been tested in real life combat.

Yes your right as of today its still got problems and many US & Israeli F35,s have had to be stopped from active service for modifications and also the air craft carrier version has problems including vertical landing . If you look at the high maintenance upkeep and the constant need to apply a new anti-radar coating after several missions and the difference with the Russian SU57 which is much cheaper and much more reliable and outperforms the F35 in close combat you will realize that US technical “brains ” are far inferior to Russian– what do you expect when… Read more »

While to make massive profits the USA aircraft industry builds -new models- new designs from scratch costing $$$$ billions which the US tax payer pays for while Russia re-engineers its existing aircraft and STILL !! beats the US for reliability and airworthiness.

The US F16 was a high point of US design but look at it now — completely unreliable aircraft design ,the only people happy are the shareholders making $$$$ Billions from the US tax payer.
