The European Union blasted Israel for closing the Kerem Shalom crossing to Gaza for non-humanitarian cases and demanded that Israel reverse the decision.

Israel has turned Gaza into the largest open air prison camp since 2008. Access to the 1.8 million people enclave has been systematically blocked. The WW III-style Concentration Camp only has 4 hours of electricity a day.

The Israeli regime’s decision was made in response to Palestinians using incendiary kites and balloons sent from Gaza into Israeli territory with the aim to damage Israeli property and assets, while Israeli warplanes destroyed 17.000 buildings in Gaza?

Last week Zionist extremists, Israeli PM Netanyahu and Russian-born Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman announced that the Kerem Shalom crossing would be temporarily closed.

The Israeli decision to close the Kerem Shalom lifeline crossing point, except for humanitarian supplies, and to restrict the fishing zone for Palestinians risks further aggravating the already dire economic situation in Gaza.

The European Union fully joins and supports current efforts by the UN and other partners to reduce tensions, upkeep intra-Palestinian reconciliation and improve the humanitarian and economic situation in Gaza.

On Tuesday, the UN’s Middle East envoy expressed concern over Israel’s decision to close the Kerem Shalom crossing and urged Israel to reverse the decision which was made for essentially punishing the residents of Gaza.

“Humanitarian assistance is no substitute for commerce and trade. I urge the authorities to reverse this decision,” said the envoy, Nickolay Mladenov.

At the same time, he also said “Palestinians in Gaza should also do their part by maintaining calm, stopping incendiary kites and preventing other provocations.”

Isolating 2 million people for 10 years is an extreme crime against humanity.
