The Dutch town of Utrecht is being transformed into a 10-minute city and residents who are concerned about this Smart City project are only being listened to as a formality, De Andere Krant discovered.
One of them wrote to council members personally, but no one responded. Citizens have nothing to complain about. Researcher and citizen activist Maartje van den Berg discovered that Utrecht is in a transition to a 10-minute city.

The intention is for the city to be divided into seven sub-areas. There will be shared cars, pedestrians will be given priority, cyclists and public transport will be encouraged and if you still have your own car, you will have to park it in a hub, says Van den Berg.
Yvonne Hessel of Utrecht Solidair is one of the few municipal council members who takes citizens’ concerns seriously. She initially thought that the plans for a Smart City would not be too bad, but when she looked into it more, she woke up.
All kinds of decisions are being made in the Overvecht district to ensure that you no longer have to leave the neighborhood. Hessel predicts that Overvecht will soon become a closed district, a kind of bubble.

The councilor saw how classic lampposts were replaced by aluminum ones with bright lighting that (could) contain sensors and other electronics. She discovered to her horror that many municipalities are installing these types of smart lampposts.
The council simply rams it through and pretends that the residents are actually involved. Hessel: That is bogus participation.

The Dutch are the WEF’s primary tool. First countries were indirectly run by secret services, but now, like in Holland, the PM is such an operative, while he never took part in the elections, he now runs the country directly.
