Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that Russia successfully tested an unmanned underwater vehicle (UUV) capable of decimating coastal cities.
The weapon is the most recent iteration of the Poseidon, a nuclear-powered super torpedo named after the Greek god of the sea.
Experts estimate Poseidon can reach speeds of up to 115 miles per hour, which makes the UUV many times faster than all modern surface warships, Putin claimed in a speech on November 4, 2025.
When armed with a nuclear warhead, Poseidon can reportedly generate radioactive swells—or toxic ocean waves—which would be devastating for anyone living along the shoreline.
Mock plans of Poseidon were originally leaked in 2015 on a Russian broadcast, and official testing began just a few years later in 2018.
The UUV is estimated to be 20 meters (65 feet) long, and is reportedly capable of ranges up to 6,200 miles, classing it as an intercontinental weapon, analysts say.
For reference, the distance between Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, a port city in Eastern Russia, and San Francisco, California, is just shy of 3,300 nautical miles—far shorter than the torpedo’s maximum range.
In a statement made while visiting wounded Russian soldiers for tea and cake, Putin also said that there is no way to intercept Poseidon, Reuters reports.

The announcement of Poseidon’s success came just a few days after the launch of the Burevestnik, a nuclear-powered cruise missile. Burevestnik is unlike any other nuclear missile because it can fly extremely long and far.
Valery Gerasimov, Russia’s chief of the general staff, announced that the craft flew for 15 hours, covering 8,700 miles during its October test flight—a feat that is reportedly still below the maximum capabilities of the missile.
A researcher for the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research told NBC news that the weapon is largely political.
In developing these novel weapons, Russia appears to be hedging against any potential future advances in US missile defense, which the USA now wants to accelerate through the ‘Golden Dome’ initiative.
This according to Zuzanna Gwadera, a researcher who analyzes defense and military, writes in her examination for the International Institute for Strategic Studies.
According to Putin himself, the recent efforts are the newest manifestation of the arms race and should not come as a surprise to the rest of the world.
Russia, like all other nuclear powers, is developing its nuclear potential, its strategic potential, he said in the November speech.

The USA has admitted it has no equivalent to either, America has not got a very compact nuclear powered engine and American media has been going on about the torpedo creating a tsunami and destroying New York and other coastal American cities.
Russia has been ahead of the west for a long time in nuclear design and its only US sanctions stopping Russia from making massive profits from its nuclear industry.
Sanctions are one of the most hostile tools in the war game, leading to the suffering of billions of people. But hey, its part of the Zionist narrative and must be praised and glorified.
