Repair of 271.000 US Bridges will take until 2071 to Finish

Every 4 years the American Society of Civil Engineers measures the conditions of bridge, water and transportation infrastructure within the USA.

There are more than 671.000 bridges across the USA, of which 7.5% are considered structurally deficient and in very poor condition.

The findings of the American Society of Civil Engineers were published through the Infrastructure Report Card, where America’s Cumulative Infrastructure Grade was rated @ C-, while the bridges got a mediocre C.

About 42% of all bridges are at least 50 years old, where of which 12% of the highway bridges are aged 80 years or older. America needs to increase spending om bridge rehabilitation by 58% if it is to improve the condition.

The US government needs $125 billion to repair the failing infrastructure. Nearly 231.000 bridges need repair and preservation work. At the current rate of investment it will take until 2071 to make all the repairs that are currently necessary.
