NEW YORK, October 3. /TASS/.  Russian counter attacks targeting bridges in Kiev may result in a logistical nightmare for Ukraine, The New York Times (NYT) reported.

According to the newspaper, attacks could weaken the bridges’ supporting structures, forcing the authorities to close them indefinitely. The result would be a logistical nightmare for Kiev and the entire country, the NYT argued.

On Friday morning, Russia’s Defense Ministry reported that Russian forces struck a road and rail bridge across the Dnieper River in Kiev that the Ukrainian army’s battle-groups in Donbass relied on for military supplies.

Last night, Russian forces struck the Severny road bridge over the Dnieper River in the Ukrainian capital, a route used by the Ukrainian armed forces to move troops.

Western countries have drawn up contingency plans to relocate their embassies from Kiev if the security situation in the Ukrainian capital deteriorates further, The Guardian reported, citing two diplomatic sources.

According to them, the diplomatic missions could relocate to Lvov or eastern Poland. The situation is obviously deteriorating fast, one unnamed diplomat said.

The newspaper also quoted Kiev Mayor Vitaly Klitschko as saying that the city is in a very dramatic situation. It’s no longer possible to pretend that we can live now as we do in peacetime.

Should have done this a long time ago -any country with even a slight knowlege of military intelligence would only need to look at the history of WW2 where it was standard practice to blow up bridges to stop the enemy from getting supplies of weapons etc . Even Germany on its retreat from the Soviet Union to slow down the advancing Russian army westwards blew up bridges – simple battlefront military logic ! Sorry I dont hold the same totally impractical dream of world peace in the present circumstances and “lets be friends ” that the Russian leader has… Read more »
