The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and police are bracing themselves for possible protests near the Syrian border following US President Donald Trump’s move to recognize the Jewish regime’s sovereignty over the occupied Golan Heights.
The development comes as the Druze, an Arab minority who practice an offshoot of Islam and live in the Golan Heights, rejected US President Donald Trump’s support of Israel’s sovereignty over the area.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, for his part, warned that Trump’s statement on the Golan Heights puts the Middle East region on the brink of a new crisis and that “the world can not allow the legitimization of the occupation” of the Golan.
Israel took control of the Golan Heights in 1967 after the Six-Day War between Israel and the neighboring states of Egypt, Jordan and Syria.
In 1981, Israel adopted a law extending its jurisdiction over the territory, in a move that has never been recognized internationally and that further worsened Israeli-Syrian ties.
