The government in Tehran released the British-flagged oil tanker Steno Impero, that was confiscated after an Iranian tanker had been seized by British forces in Gibraltar.
The tanker has finally docked in Dubai’s Port Rashid in the United Arab Emirates after sailing out of Iranian waters on Friday. The remaining crew received medical checks before traveling home to their families.
The Stena Impero was boarded by Iran’s Revolutionary Guards on July 19, 2019 because it was caught drifting/sailing in Iranian territorial waters.
The standoff stoked tensions along the global oil shipping route, before the Iranian ship was released in late August, on its way delivering its cargo to Syria.
Damascus has been choked off by hostile Zionist sanctions, including imports of oil, while Syria’s own oil fields and refineries are annexed and occupied by the US military.
