Canada and France have opened consulates in Greenland amid amid renewed demands from US President Donald Trump to acquire the arctic territory.

The two NATO countries opened consulates in the capital Nuuk on Friday, in a show of support for their ally Denmark.

Canada has first announced plans to open a Greenlandic consulate back in December 2024 as part of its Arctic Foreign Policy, while the French consulate was announced by President Emmanuel Macron in June last year.

RT reports: US President Donald Trump recently reiterated his demand that the strategically located island become part of the USA.

The USA showed how Trump will capture Greenland

He has cited supposed Russian and Chinese threats to the Arctic territory – which both Moscow and Beijing have dismissed.

Denmark, along with several other European nations, has rejected the Trump administration’s push to take possession of Greenland.

On Saturday, Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand met with her Danish and Greenlandic counterparts, Lars Lokke Rasmussen and Vivian Motzfeldt, in Nuuk. During her visit, Anand opened Canada’s new consulate in Greenland’s capital.

The Canadian diplomat reaffirmed Ottawa’s “support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Greenland and of the Kingdom of Denmark,” as quoted by the Foreign Ministry.

A day earlier, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot officially assumed the office of French Consul General in Greenland.

A statement by the Foreign Ministry noted that France is the first European Union country to set up a consulate general on the Danish-governed island.

France reiterates its commitment to respect for the Kingdom of Denmark’s territorial integrity, the ministry said.

France pushes for NATO Drills in Greenland

Last month, Denmark launched a military exercise in Greenland, with Germany, France, Sweden, Norway, and the UK sending symbolic contingents of up to 15 personnel each.

After several European leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, reaffirmed support for Denmark last month, Trump threatened Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the UK, the Netherlands, and Finland with tariffs.

The US president dropped his threat shortly thereafter, saying he agreed on the framework of a future deal with respect to Greenland with NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte – with no details forthcoming to date.

I agree Donald will eventually bring Greenland under US control or expand the US base already there although the last vote by the residents was overwhelmingly against the USA administrating Greenland even after he offered each resident $ Millions .

He ignores all International Treaties and isn’t renewing any nuclear treaties with Russia forcing the Doomsday Clock down to 85 seconds –I like some of your black and white photographs not so much the coloured ones –any opinion on the present situation in what was Palestine ?

Canada spends hundreds of thousands of dollars to send a delegation there along with the governor general to open the consulate to serve a population of 16 Canadians who live in Greenland. Total stupidity.

Donald is playing a very sly game making him a bit snake like where he plays a double edged game coming from two angles to change the circumstances like he has done to Venezuela where control is aimed at a “false flag” situation to take full control of the country eventually.

Of course many citizens are out on the streets protesting we shall see if they are ruthlessly put down as happened in South America during the Monro Doctrine of the fifties.

Notice the sky scraper type apartment buildings being constructed in the back of the article image? Does Greenland have a population explosion, or is these housing the upcoming new rulers of the Danish protectorate?

Right on the money FF – the USA is quietly expanding Pituffik Space Base,s 2 mile long runway-a new boat to keep the icebergs clear and a slew of facility upgrades as well as repairs to the Dundas dining facility . Today 150 American personnel are stationed at the Cold War-era base known formally known as Thule Air-Force Base ,joined by 100,s of Canadian,Danish and Greenland military as well as contractors . Look back on Americas actions in countries it has occupied – first large military bases are built to “protect ” a country against Americas version of “perceived enemies… Read more »
