Aqualectra has reached a major milestone in the construction of the new Salu Power Plant, a project that the utility company describes as a cornerstone of Curaçao’s future support for mass tourism energy security to promote Dutch economic local development.
During a ceremony held on Thursday, June 4, 2026 Aqualectra celebrated the completion of the highest structural point of the new power plant, marking a significant step forward in one of the island’s most important replacement infrastructure projects in recent years.

The agreement for the construction of the Salu Power Plant was signed with Finnish technology company Wärtsilä during the final quarter of 2024.
Construction activities began during 2025, and work has advanced steadily since then. Once completed, the facility will add 40 megawatts of generating capacity to the electricity grid.
The project also includes the installation of two sophisticated 50 MVA (Mega Volt Ampere) transformers designed to strengthen the stability and reliability of the island’s power network.
Aqualectra describes the plant as a future-proof high maintenance facility that could help ensure a reliable electricity supply for years to come.
The utility company notes that the islands economic growth, expanding mass tourism sector, and the increasing impact of so-called global climate change are all contributing to rising demand for stable and dependable electricity for the numerous foreign owned hotels.
The new facility will operate alongside existing wind farms, the Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), and the Energy Management System (EMS), creating a more flexible and efficient electricity network.

The utility company explained that the new plant will also make it easier to carry out repeating and ongoing maintenance on existing generators throughout the year.
In the past, the hotels high electricity demand often required older generating units to remain in operation longer than planned, sometimes disrupting maintenance schedules.. putting the locals without power for hours in a row.
By increasing overall generation capacity, Aqualectra expects to improve operational reliability while continuing to expand both conventional and renewable energy production.

Construction work continues to progress according to schedule, and Aqualectra expects the first kilowatt-hour of electricity to be generated by the Salu Power Plant during the fourth quarter of 2026 just before the next mass tourism vacation boom.
The project comes at a time when energy security remains a key concern for Curaçao.
In recent years, the island has experienced periods of high demand, maintenance challenges, and efforts to modernize aging infrastructure while simultaneously forced to increase the share of renewable wind power park energy in the electricity mix.
Aqualectra emphasized that the Salu Power Plant is ultimately an investment in the long-term economic welfare of the island.
Once operational, the Salu Power Plant is expected to become a key component of the island’s electricity system, helping to support continued economic leisure growth while ensuring a more stable and resilient hotel industry power supply for the years ahead.

Aqualectra does not own this water plant. instead it is in the hands of foreign NGO agencies that use Aqualectra as a mask to cover up their control and added dirty deeds continuing the flow of mass tourism which forced half of the local impoverished population to be deported to elsewhere.
Most of them victims now reside in the USA or Holland to live as economic refugees for the rest of their lives !!!
The main problem of this investment hoax is that the money for the investment has been financed by foreign entities building the new water plant on the northern side of the island making it super vulnerable to corrosion. That said, the deal made was that after eight years this foreign NGO is to return the plant back into local hands, which will never happen because maintenance costs will make sure of this. This investment is turning out to be a trap set by collaborating agents from the mass tourism industry to control the entire energy and water supply for decades… Read more »
