The Russian air defense intercepted and destroyed 35 Ukrainian drones over the Moscow, Belgorod, Kaluga, Oryol, Rostov, Yaroslavl and Kursk regions, as well as Krasnodar Territory, the Russian Defense Ministry said on Sunday.

During the past night and the morning of March 17, attempts by the Kiev regime to carry out terrorist attacks using fixed-wing drones against targets on the territory of the Russian Federation were prevented, adding that 35 drones were intercepted and destroyed.

Earlier, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov, commenting on attacks by Ukrainian drones on Russian territory, emphasized that Kiev continues terrorist activities, but that the Russian military is on alert and doing everything necessary.

Ukraine has been sending drones and missiles into Russia almost daily since it launched its counteroffensive in early June 2023.

The United Nations said in August last year, following a botched drone strike on Moscow, that it did not want to see any targeting of civilian infrastructure.

However, the Russian presidential election took place from March 15 to 17. Apart from Vladimir Putin, three candidates participated in the presidential race:

Nikolay Kharitonov (СPRF), Leonid Slutsky (LDPR) and Vladislav Davankov (New People). According to the law, it is necessary to collect more than 50% of the votes to win the election.

Vladimir Putin’s victory in the Russian presidential election this year is his biggest electoral triumph to date as he managed to garner over 80% of the vote – achieved amid a record voter turnout.
